Lady in Red…Lipstick that Is

Red lipstick is a classic and it seems like it won’t go out of style anytime soon! Some women feel that they can’t wear red lipstick because it wont suit them or go with their complexion, or maybe its just not for them. Red lipstick is fun, daring, and very versatile; just about anyone can wear it. That means YOU too!

1.If you have thin lips then don’t go for deep reds the tend to make your lips look smaller.

2. Are you going for a daytime or night time look? During the day a soft, sheer red is just fab, and At night a bold red is great for accentuating your features.

3. A lighter eye make up works best with red lipstick, along with some great mascara.

4. When applying the lipstick don’t use red lip liner, go for a color that is the closest to your natural lip shade and outline your lip.

Even though the paler your skin is the more a red lipstick will work in your favor, don’t worry a lighter shade of powder your use for your face can give you the same effect.

Psst! – To prevent your red lipstick from bleeding try applying a bit of concealer around the border of your mouth.

Help! I Have: A Short Torso

Do you hate the fact that you have a short torso? Don’t be discouraged, EMBRACE IT! There are many ways you can the top half of your body look longer creating the illusion of a longer torso.

1. Try to avoid showing your waistline by wearing tops outside of your bottoms.

2. Wearing any type of low-rise pants: regular low-rise, ultra rise, or super ultra low-rise. It gives off the look that your torso ends where your pants begin, elongating it.

3. Wearing a monochromatic color scheme, not differentiating the color between your top and bottom half, make people look at your clothing as a whole and not different pieces.

4. Wearing long scarves tied low, or long necklaces help make your torso look longer.

Hope that helped!

Help! I Have: Long Legs

Do people always tell you that you have long, great legs? Or OMG I wish I was as tall as you! (like me) Well I have some helpful tips for you gals. Finding clothing for tall people in general isn’t the easiest thing in the world but with some great advice you’ll be just fine.

Leggings are a great bottom for tall people. Pairing them with heels or ballet pumps and a  T-shirt dress give off a modest look.

When it comes to shoes be happy that you are tall because just about any shoe style works great on you. A pair of ballerina pumps (flats) are shoes you just have to have! They give off comfort and make you look shorter. Flats with shorts work best with tall legs. Mid calf boots and shoes with ankle straps tend to reduce the arch making you look shorter as well.

The only store I buy my jeans from is Charlotte Russe. This is the only store I know that caters to women with long legs, any other store I go to, the jeans are always too short, or don’t fit right. With each pair of jeans there are 3 options short, regular, or long. Isn’t that so kind of  them? CR is the best!

Also cigarette trousers are great for long legs. They are high-waisted but narrow and reveal your ankles cutting of the length off your legs.

Help! I Have: Short Legs

For those women out there who are between 5’0″ to 5’7″ and wish they were taller, I have a few tips for you. #1. Embrace your shortness!! There are women out there who wish they were shorter (like me). But  choosing the right clothes that are the perfect can give off the impression that your legs are longer than they seem.

#2. Wearing high-waisted pants that flare, or are wide legged, work best for shorter people because they hide where your waist begins and you bottom ends making your legs look much longer.

#3. Wearing mini skirts work best on short legs as well. Wearing mid-thigh skirts hide a portion of your legs making you look taller. The shorter your skirt the better!

Psst!- If you tuck your tops inside your bottoms it enhances the lengthening of your body.

This is a cute little trend started last fall. Wedges and socks ? Yes my dear your eyes are correct.

This look can be worn in the summer or autumn time. Wearing strappy wedges are the best with bold colored socks or opaque tights. Are you someone who racks up on summer sandals and not winter shoes, NO PROBLEM! As long as you have at least 3 versatile wedge heels you can wear them with socks or tights on a chilly autumn night or a hot summer day.

Color Blocking Comeback

If you haven’t noticed, a lot of old styles are becoming new once again. But one style that is catching my eye is color blocking.

What is colorblocking? Well exactly what it sounds like. Dressing solid colors with one another, usually its only 3 colors that are used. Basically this trend is bringing back simply chic. You dont ALWAYS need bold prints, or sparkly fabrics to look fabulous. Simple colors paired together can make an outfit pop.

Lets take a look at the color wheel and compare it to fashion.

If you want to color block in a monochromatic (one color) color scheme, use different values of the hue. It would make you look very harmonious, restful, subtle and quiet (depending on the color you choose).

Colorblocking in an analogous color scheme (3 neighboring colors) makes you look richer and give off more fulfilled effects. Reds are hot and warm, eccentric and advance in space. Blue and its neighbors on the color wheel are cool, reductive, and recede in space.

However I am seeing alot of complementary colors being color blocked. Yellows and purples, orange and blues, reds and greens are fully intensified. These colors would make you seem lively, dynamic, exciting, and active.

So why has this trend from the 60s made its way back into the scene? Colorblocking is used to hide flaws! If you want to accuentate your hips wearing a bright neon colored skirt and a black or neutral top would do the trick.

“Generally a color blocked outfit will work best if you stick to the usual rules for your body shape. If you are pear shaped, opt for darker colors on the bottom half. If you are apple shaped avoid horizontal blocks of color around the stomach area but highlight legs with color blocks created by brightly colored tights. If you are hourglass, a color block around the waist is a great way of highlighting it and drawing attention to you womanly figure.” – Indian Makeup & Beauty Blog

Spruce Up Your Denim Jackets

Related to my previous post about bringing denim back, there are ways that you can design your old denim jackets and make them look great.

This denim vest has spikes, and pink fringe shoulders. Giving off a military look, no? The vest features a Louis Vuitton cut-out studded to the vest instead of being sewn on. Creativity on this on a scale of 1-5, I give this a 4.

This awesome rugged vest is another one that caught my eye. It has spiky studs and a pirate patch in the front. But in the back the panel of cheetah print is very different! I love this 5!

Balmain Jacket

Now this is a Balmain jacket, no it is not a denim jacket but it is an intresting way to decorate one.  It has silver flat circular studs and safety pins accents with an American Flag patchwork print on the back. This jacket is very creative and original, giving off a very vintage look. On a scale of 1-5 I give this jacket a supersized 5!

Look at that sleeve! Its full of my favorite type of studs: pyramid.  This jacket is flashy and will certainly turn heads as you walk by. Notice that the front of this denim jacket is bleached…alot! When it comes to bleaching denim or any kind of fabric, add a little water to dilute the bleach so overtime the clothes dont become ruined. The more durable the jacket the better! If you look closley the jacket has safety pin accents as well. I have a fetish for edgy looks, and this jacket is definitely giving this model one. I rate this jacket a 5!

All in all, don’t throw out those old denim jackets and shirts you have. If you have a creative eye for style then you most certainly can bring them back to life. Using studs, spikes, bleach, fabric paint, other fabric, and many more things you can find in your local craft store.

Hello world!

Hello!  Nice of you to come and explore my blog.  Let me introduce myself. My name is DeAnn Harte, last name pronounced (heart). I am 19 years old and this is my first real blog. A few words to describe myself: silly, funny, creative, friendly, and passionate. I am currently a Sophomore at Centenary College, NJ, studying Fashion Merchandising.  After I graduate I want to become a Fashion Event Coordinator and a Stylist.

Now I just recently had the epiphany that I wanted to become a stylist last week. I just love fashion, and I am fascinated by the way people dress. Its one of the ways people can express themselves. Some people write poetry, others get tattoos, and some do it by dressing a certain way. Fashion has no definite definition to me because what you might think is NOT fashion, someone else sees it AS being so.  This famous quote basically gives my viewpoint of fashion, “‘Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” – Coco Chanel. Yes that just about sums it up!

So with that being said, im very happy to be launching my new blog. Most of what you will see here is fashion of course, and other quirky, random things, because…well…. I just think its interesting hehe. I will try to  update as much as possible, to give you guys a feel of the kind of person I am, and how I feel about fashion.

Enjoy!
